Margo Campbell (grncm, pprncm)
Profesionall Soprano, Vocal Coach & Singing Tutor
An opera singer espousing the Bel Canto technique, with more than 20 years’ experience herself, Margo teaches singing to a wide variety of singers of all ages (7-70+!), and experience, from total beginners to full time professionals and in musical genres ranging from Classical and Musical Theatre through Folk and Soul to R&B and even Rap! She believes that no matter what her pupil’s aspirations are whether just singing for their own pleasure, to join a choir, to improve their range or build their confidence, to prepare for exams, auditions or to keep their already high standards honed, all vocal projection requires the same solid foundations to work from. "If you compare singing to a tree, we all need the same strong roots and solid trunk”, you are then free to explore whichever branches your taste chooses to take you....whether, like an opera singer, you need every branch, twig and bud to fill an auditorium without the aid of amplification or prefer to use a little less."
Biography
Margo studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Catherine Wilson and John Cameron and at the National Opera Studio with Ian Baar.
GRNCM (Graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music) 4 year degree level music course with a performance bias which encompasses theory of music, aural examination, history of music and includes an examination on the theory of teaching. PPRNCM (a Diploma in Professional Performance) and Alumni of the very exclusive and the prestigious National Opera Studio
Tuition
All lessons are individual, private and either face to face or remotely. For most students first lessons are structured; beginning with learning how to look after their vocal folds, some basic exercises and vocal techniques discovering what those do to develop your voice and then progressing to applying those to simple songs. After the basics have been covered most lessons are split evenly between technique and songs of the student’s choice, depending on the individual students requirements. If desired, lessons can be recorded digitally and transferred onto memory stick for private study practice at home.
Location
Teaching from the privacy of her own home in the semi rural village of Helmshore nestled in the Rossendale Valley, situated conveniently close to the M66 motorway so within swift and easy reach of Manchester ( X40 & X41 Bus routes) and Bury and yet also just a short drive from South Lancashire towns of Blackburn and Burnley.
Remote Lessons
2020 brought many new challenges for us all, among which was the necessity of discovering how to use technology to facilitate us continuing to make music.
One of the problems we discovered using zoom is that there can be a delay between the backing track and the singing and Zoom often blocks out background noise which makes its usefulness for singing tuition limited, therefore when I teach remotely I use a dedicated music teaching platform call "Muzie" which has has proved to be a surprisingly excellent tool for most and one which we will be continuing to utilise for those who may find it difficult to attend lessons in person in the future.
